The Archaeological Museum of Cordoba hides a wonderful surprise, the ancient Roman Theatre of the city, which was discovered on the foundations of the current museum during some renovation works.
Thanks to the work of archaeologists, approximately 30% of the building has been recovered, and we can visit it in a specially designed room of the museum to house these archaeological remains.
The Roman Theater of Cordoba was the second largest in the Roman Empire, only surpassed by the Theater of Rome. In total, the Roman Theater of Cordoba could hold up to 15,000 spectators and was equipped with all kinds of comforts. Do not forget that Córdoba was one of the most populous and important cities of the Roman Empire.
